I just found an interesting article about implementing streaming video without special streaming server. Just to let you know that, with streaming video , you can watch the end of the video without downloading the complete video file. You can basically move around to any position of the time line.

You just need to use the latest Flowplayer , xmoov.php file , and video file.

Check out this instruction and Demo .

I will try this later myself when I have more time. But this looks really good and smooth!

Sorry, I find that the above resource page is not working any more.

You can search Google for 'xmoov' and check out the information about implementing Streaming Video using PHP script instead of the Stream Server.

I remember that I tried to implement this as a separate project than Hana FLV player few months ago.

At that time, I realized that xmoov php scrip solution requires

1. xmoov.php script and some modification
2. some config setting with Flowplayer javascript call .
3. I remember that you also need to embed Metadata into FLV video file. (You can download the tool at http://www.inlet-media.de/flvtool2/)

I was successful setting up properly, but I basically gave up using it in my production site because,

The response was horribly slow compare to the actual streaming server. (Maybe my shared hosting account was slow?) The time lag is caused by the php script searching for the particular position in a file. And I had to embed Metadata into FLV video file before uploading onto the hosting account.

I found that the traditional way (non-streaming) is much better. Since it prevents user to move forward without downloading the full video, the user does not experience the possible time lag.
